Reide Corbett

overview

  • Dr. Reide Corbett is interim dean of the Thomas Harriot College of Arts and Sciences and a professor in the Department of Earth, Environment and Planning at East Carolina University. A coastal oceanographer and geochemist, his interdisciplinary research examines coastal change, sediment dynamics, groundwater-surface water interactions, shoreline processes, and the geomorphic evolution of coastal systems. His work has taken him from North Carolina and Puerto Rico to New Zealand and Antarctica, including extensive time at sea as a chief scientist. Corbett has secured more than $20 million in external funding, including more than $11 million as principal investigator, and has authored or co-authored more than 100 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters. He has advised and mentored scores of undergraduate and graduate students and works closely with government agencies, nonprofit organizations, industry partners, and coastal communities to ensure that research informs real-world environmental decisions.
