Tsunamigenic deposits: a chronological approach Grant uri icon

abstract

  • Geological Sciences Department at ECU has extensive experience in the use of geochronology to understand coastal environmental processes at both modern and paleo-temporal scales. To that end, a unique approach to this research will stem from the application of. Pb-210 can be used to determine if the sand is older than ~100 years. If so, we could extend the chronology based on sedimentation rates to provide a rough estimate of the deposition time. If the Pb-210 profile is truncated by the sand layer, the hypothesis will be rejected as the deposit might have been formed as result of a recent storm overwash.
