Estuarine Shoreline Mapping Analysis: Evaluating Shoreline and Structure Data in the Twenty Coastal Counties of North Carolina Grant uri icon

abstract

  • This contract will enable ECU scientists to lead an analysis of recently created estuarine shoreline and structure data based on guidance from the N.C. Division of Coastal Management (DCM). This analysis is important to understanding change in the nature of the shoreline. Data tables and a summary of shoreline information (including information on the number of structures, shading area, etc.) will be produced in this effort. This project will identify the shoreline types and associated structures along each portion of shoreline. The mapped shoreline and results of its analysis could support various future projects, such as compilation of a shoreline structure inventory, quantifying shoreline mileage by shoreline type, studying ecosystem function and cumulative impacts, and for examining shoreline change.
