Angela Lamson

  • Angela Lamson, PhD, LMFT. Dr. Angela Lamson, PhD, LMFT, serves as the Interim Assistant Vice Chancellor for Research Development and is a Nancy W. Darden Distinguished Professor in the Department of Human Development and Family Science. Dr. Lamson is a clinical fellow with the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy and is an AAMFT-Approved Supervisor. She has served as an interim Assistant Vice Chancellor for Economic &; Community Engagement, program director for the Medical Family Therapy doctoral program and Marriage and Family Therapy master's program and directed the ECU Family Therapy Clinic. She has also served as the associate dean for research and associate dean for graduate studies in the College of Health and Human Performance. Dr. Lamson's teaching, scholarship, funding, and clinical practice have been devoted to Medical Family Therapy and integrated behavioral health care, particularly in the areas of trauma, chronic illness, loss, and compassion fatigue in the lives of individuals, couples, families, and providers. Her training and research initiatives have been housed in community health, primary care, specialty care, schools, and military bases. Lamson co-created the Relationally-Centered Integrated Behavioral Health model and has served as PI on multi-disciplinary and multi-sector external grant awards. Dr. Lamson was honored with the 2015 James R Talton Leadership award, 2020 Outstanding Contribution to Marriage and Family Therapy Award by the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, the East Carolina University 2022 Research and Creative Activity Lifetime Achievement Award, 2024 C Peter Magrath Community Engagement Scholarship Award, and 2025 James E. Holshouer Award for Excellence in Public Service.
