overview
- Dr. Meardon studies neuromuscular and biomechanical factors that contribute to injury during physical activity. The overarching goal of her research is to prevent injury in active populations in order to optimize long term bone and joint health and remove barriers to physical activity. Her research is directed toward identifying factors that result in injury and elevated tissue stress during physical activity in order to identify targets for intervention that modify risk factors, reduce pain, and improve function. She is also interested in how postural control, movement variability and coordination contribute to injury. Current work includes: 1) Assessing how locomotor patterns and footwear influence tissue loads both acutely and over time 2) Identifying biomechanical factors associated with elevated bone stress and stress fracture 3) Evaluating postural control and adaptability in persons with injury.
