LindseyOakesreceived her Ph.D. in Public Health Education from the University of North Carolina Greensboro (UNCG) and M.S. in Recreation and Parks Management with a concentration in Therapeutic Recreation from UNCG. Her research has involved undergraduate and graduate students and is focused on recreational therapy (RT) best practices among CTRS who work with adults with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities (IDD) in community-based settings, use of virtual reality as an RT intervention with young adults with IDD, inclusion of college students and individuals with IDD in campus recreation and community recreation, and establishing a data-driven conceptual model for inclusive service delivery for individuals with IDD within community recreation. Lindsey has experience with community-based participatory action research, specifically photovoice. While at ECU, Lindsey has been working on a photovoice project with young adults with IDD through Pitt Community College Career Academy to focus on increasing community recreation inclusion. Lindsey is interested in establishing inclusive postsecondary education (IPSE) programs for college students with IDD as a new worksite for recreational therapists. She led the start of an IPSE program at Texas State University and is exploring opportunities to start a program at ECU.
