Exploring Inclusion of College Students with IDD within Campus Recreation at the Organizational Level Grant uri icon

abstract

  • This will be a cross-sectional non-experimental study that aims to examine feelings, beliefs, and intentions of campus recreation staff in regard to individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities (IDD) and inclusive service delivery, and examine the presence or absence of best practices for inclusive service delivery that shape the overall cultural context of campus recreation departments in regard to disability inclusion. There are three research questions: (1) What are the feelings, beliefs, and intentions of campus recreation staff in regard to individuals with IDD and inclusive service delivery?, (2) Which best practices for inclusive service delivery are present and/or absent within the campus recreation department?, and (3) Is there a relationship between the feelings and beliefs of campus recreation staff and the intentions to use inclusive service delivery? A stratified sampling technique will be used to select six U.S. universities that have inclusive postsecondary education (IPSE) programs, which are designed to serve college students with IDD. Approximately 60 campus recreation staff will be recruited per school (N = 360) to complete a Qualtrics survey that will measure feelings, beliefs, and intentions regarding inclusive service delivery. The Director of the campus recreation department at each participating university will also complete a Qualtrics survey that will measure the presence and/or absence of best practices for inclusive service delivery within their respective campus recreation department. Statistical analyses will include design effect, Huber-White Sandwich Estimator, descriptive statistics, and path analysis.
