Sarah Britney Maness

overview

Dr. Sarah Maness conducts community-engaged, public health research. Her work examines how where we live, work, learn and play impacts health outcomes, with a focus on reproductive health and community firearm violence prevention. Dr. Maness has a special interest in global health and has led ECU study abroad programs to South America and Southeast Asia. She served as a 2025 Fulbright Specialist in Ecuador, and was selected for the 2026 Baden-Wurttenburg/North Carolina Faculty Exchange Program in Germany. Dr. Maness currently serves on the Board of Directors of the North Carolina Fulbright Association.

Fulbright Specialist Program Dr. Maness served as a visiting consultant at Escuela Superior Politecnica Del Litoral University in Guayaquil, Ecuador for 5 weeks in January/February 2025. She collaborated with host institution leaders and community representatives to lead 6 workshops to strengthen crisis management skills, psychological preparation for high-risk situations, and emotional and behavioral response strategies. 2024
