April Helene Reed

  • April H. Reed, PhD, PMP is an Associate Professor in the College of Business, Management Information Systems (MIS) department at East Carolina University. She conducts research in the area of IS/IT project management, educational simulations, pair programming and STEM education. She is a PMI certified Project Management Professional (PMP) and a Certified Scrum Master (CSM). She has held several industry positions including Programmer, Systems Analyst and Project Manager. She has published several papers on the topic of risk and virtual software development project teams as well as pair programming in IS journals such as International Journal of Information Technology Project Management, Journal of Computer Information Systems, International Journal of Project Management, Informing Sciences and Journal of Information Technology Management. She has also published on the use of simulations in education. She was accepted into the 2017-2018 Engagement Outreach Scholars Academy with a $5,000 grant. She used the funding to plan and conduct a MIS STEM Camp in November 2017 for local middle and high school girls with a community partner and then conducted research on the outcome of the camp. She has applied for and received several other grants to conduct the MIS STEM Camp annually during the summer (2018, 2019 and 2022). She holds a PhD in Computer Science/Information Systems from DePaul University.

  • Invited Speaker for HOiST Event on 2/23/23: Engaging in Collaboration Across Divisions Invited guest speaker on a panel at this university event to discuss the MIS STEM Camp and how I engaged other university departments when developing and executing the camp. Event is part of a series and is recorded.HOiST is a collaborative series of programs between the new Center for Student Success, Office of Faculty Excellence, and the University Writing Center to provide resources and information to faculty to "help our students thrive" (or HOiST for the acronym.) 2022
  • Finance Chair - Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority Served on the Executive Board as the Finance Chair for Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority, Beta Alpha Chapter. Participated in executive board members as a voting member. Created annual budget and reviewed it with the board for approval. Reviewed budget with Sorority members. 2019 - 2022
  • Member of NCPMI Project Management for Social Good Committee Accepted as member of NCPMI Project Management for Social Good Committee that serves organizations in North Carolina.
    Mission of the committee - NCPMI will leverage its project practitioners' skills and talents to facilitate community give back and make a difference one project, one non-profit organization or charitable group at a time.
    This committee will also partner with us to help provide mentors for our Global Day of Service Project. 2021

Duties were as follows.

    Review the self-study prior to onsite visit.
    Conduct the onsite visit.
    Conduct an exit interview as the last component of the onsite visit.
    Write an evaluation of the graduate program to include program strengths and recommendations for improvement. ; The evaluation should address each chapter of the self-study. ; The evaluation should be submitted electronically to the Office of Graduate Studies (graduate@shsu.edu). ; The evaluation should be submitted no later than six weeks after the completion of the onsite visit. 2018
