abstract

  • The purpose of this project is to enhance learning of local middle/high school girls by planning and hosting two one-week long non-residential MIS STEM Camps for Girls in Summer 2019 to be held on the campus of East Carolina University (ECU). Since the participants are a diverse group that come from local counties, many of which are rural, there is no charge to them to attend therefore fundraising is key. The objectives of the camp are as follows:


    Introduce pre-high school students (grades 7, 8, 9 and 10) to computer programming and technology
    Increase student interest in STEM high school pathways and higher education choices
    Increase student awareness of Management Information Systems (MIS) STEM careers
    See how STEM and business work together and offer many career paths
    Give students exposure to a college campus to spark their interest in attending college
