The gross underrepresentation of minority populations engaging in the biomedical research is well documented. Diversity is an essential part of building a talented and well-trained workforce. The goals of this proposal are to create an undergraduate research training program to increase BIPOC student participation in meaningful and productive mentored research activities in biomedical sciences at East Carolina University. This program is designed to strengthen student critical thinking skills and increase competency in scientific communication, while creating a community of biomedical researchers who embrace a culture of inclusive excellence.
