- Dr. Stuart Hamilton is Professor and Chair of the Department of Earth, Environment, and Planning at East Carolina University. A geographer specializing in geographic information systems (GIS), remote sensing, and spatial analysis, his research examines environmental change and human-environment interactions, with particular expertise in coastal and nearshore environments. His work has addressed mangrove forest dynamics, coastal carbon, aquaculture, biodiversity and conservation, water resources, and the development of large-scale geospatial datasets, with research spanning Latin America, Africa, and other regions of the world. Dr. Hamilton holds a B.S., M.A., and Ph.D. in Geography and related fields. His research has appeared in journals including Nature Climate Change, Annals of the American Association of Geographers, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Scientific Reports, Scientific Data, and Global Ecology and Biogeography.
