The objective of this project is to develop a hydrodynamic model to assess the effects of installing a plug in Corey?s Ditch at Mackay Island National Wildlife Refuge. The model will simulate flow through the marsh and creek network between Back Bay and Currituck Sound, while also examining upstream influences extending to Lake Tecumseh and connected systems. Alternative plug locations and configurations will be evaluated under a range of wind-driven and storm conditions to ensure robust analysis. The outcomes will provide a science-based foundation for designing a plug that restores more natural flow patterns, improves hydrologic connectivity, and helps reduce tidal marsh loss within the refuge, while safeguarding against increased flooding risks upstream.
