ChemCUREs: Increased access to authentic research for undergraduate Chemistry students through Course-based Undergraduate Research Experiences - SUPPLEMENT Grant uri icon

abstract

  • The ChemCUREs project originally funded course-based undergraduate research experiences (CUREs) in organic chemistry and in analytical chemistry. Demand for the organic CURE during the Spring 2018 term far exceeded space available - 180 students for 24 slots in the lab section. The 24-students were selected using a matched set statistical sampling in order to provide access to a broad range of students. This however, limited the student recruitment for the analytical CURE to schedule issues, requirements for major and students graduating. The value of the two-semester sequence is that students bridge lower to upper division course through the research, but only 8 students were able to move to the second CURE. We are now confident that we can fill a second section of the organic CURE which will provide a larger pool of students for the second CURE in analytical chemistry.
