he vision for the Global Center is to become an incubator for inclusive research and education center for mangrove and seagrass conservation and restoration with international partners by bringing together a new team of researchers in social, natural and data sciences and engineering with local to international stakeholders including conservation practitioners. We envision that the future Global Center will have two physical centers (University of Rhode Island and Indonesia location TBD), with a wide virtual network of US and international partners to integrate and leverage best-in-class global expertise (e.g., Australia, UK, Philippines, Tanzania). In this design phase, we will designate one "living lab" in Indonesia where we conduct a proof-of-concept research; when the GC is established, we envision establishing several "living labs" in different locations, and then expanding to other regions beyond the lifetime of the grant so that we can synthesize and learn from different socioeconomic, cultural, climatic and ecological settings.
