Overview

This project will create, develop, and implement education to assist all stakeholders in understanding not only the necessity of identification of medically at risk drivers, but how process works in North Carolina with the Medical Review Unit. Specifically, this continuing project will be to create the second film/education for all health care providers. We will produce an educational film that demonstrates the next steps to the process after the medically-at-risk driver is reported. We expect to expand awareness and education about the process, emphasizing the importance of the process by demystifying what happens after the medically-at-risk driver is reported. This education will likely consist of an occupational therapist/driving rehabilitation specialist (OT-DRS) 1) explaining the process of the evaluation to the medically-at-risk driver and family member, 2) showing results of the evaluation to the medically-at-risk driver and family member, 3) collaborating with a primary care provider before and after the evaluation and 4) showing a component of the on road evaluation to demonstrate at risk driving.
