Upscaling Mangrove Restoration for Coastal Hazard Reduction in a Deltaic Environment: Prioritizing Restoration Efforts for Nature-based Solutions in the Volta Delta

This project will develop a decision support tool to help local restoration practitioners prioritize locations within the Volta Delta where there is incentive for financing conservation for disaster risk reduction objectives, by integrating local-scale analyses of sites where the project team has ongoing restoration efforts with larger-scale analyses of environmental and social contexts. We have tentatively identified Toku, Oban, Anyanyui creek, and Bomigo- Agbatsivi communities as candidate sites within the Songor and Anlo-Keta Lagoon complexes, where mangrove restoration is currently ongoing or planned with an initial scoping study already conducted that identifies coastal erosion and flood reduction as potential restoration objectives.
