abstract

  • The North Carolina Sea Grant Extension Program has been designed to meet the following objectives: (1) to assist in the design, development and delivery of a comprehensive Extension Program related to marine and coastal issue; (2) to assist in the blending of both Sea Grant and non-Sea Grant advisory activities into a unified response to marine and coastal problems; (3) to assist in bringing together, within the local areas: (a) those needing technical information and advice for the harmonious development of marine-related resources and (b) a source of technical competence in the various institutions and agencies which can be brought to bear on relevant coastal problems; (4) to develop and maintain for the public an information service relating to all aspects of the marine environment, including progress of the Sea Grant research program; (5) to facilitate information exchange and cooperation among resource users through techniques such as personal contacts, seminars, workshops, education meetings and mass media; (6) to assist in the design and delivery of programs for the general public relating to the marine environment; including programs for the mass media; (6) to assist in the design and delivery of programs for the general public relating to the marine environment; including programs for school children, other youth groups, science teachers and Agriculture Extension Agents; (7) to provide feedback, through the program administration, on problems that should be considered when developing research priorities; and (8) to develop and maintain close liaison with Sea Grant programs in neighboring states to explore possibilities for regional cooperation.
