Strengthening Bioethics Capacities to Address Sustainability, Data Privacy, and Benefit Sharing in African-Focused?Polygenic?Risk Prediction Studies of Primary Open Angle Glaucoma Grant uri icon

abstract

  • The parent grant, R01 EY033829 Prioritizing Diversity in Polygenic Risk Prediction of Primary Open-Angle Glaucoma (POAG), focuses on identifying and characterizing genetic contributors to POAG in African and African-descent populations. This work addresses significant health disparities by enhancing the precision of polygenic risk scores (PRS) for these underserved groups, improving early detection and intervention efforts. The proposed supplement builds on these aims by addressing the bioethical dimensions of this research, ensuring that ethical considerations are integrated into all stages of the translational research process.
