Groundwater flow and water table position within the surficial aquifer, Emerald Grant uri icon

abstract

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the hydrology of the surficial aquifer in the Town of Emerald Isle, North Carolina. Specifically, we will determine (1) the water budget, (2) the direction of unconfined groundwater flow, (3) the position of the water table, and (4) the hydrogeologic properties of the surficial aquifer along Coast Guard Road in the Town of Emerald Isle. Field data and groundwater numerical models will be utilized to assess the impact of a high water table on storm-water runoff in residential areas during and after periods of high precipitation. Field analyses and model results will then be used to evaluate alternatives for lowering groundwater levels and/or reducing the flooding impacts of excess storm-water runoff.
