A Comparison of Drivers' Braking Responses Across Ages

Overview

This study compares the performance of young and old adults on 1) a driving simulator under conditions that need response to critical incidents that might occur in the driving environment, 2) performance on simple and complex brake reaction time, and 3) reaction of heart rate. The data will be collected by a heart monitor, observation, and scores from the simulator, Useful field of view computer test, and the ANT computer test. ANOVAs will be used to compare the differences and any important interactions due to age differences. Comparisons using correlations between the performance on the simulator and performance on the screening tools will be used to determine if there is an age interaction and how the screening tools are linked to performance on a simulator.
