COASTAL GROUNDWATER WATCH
Grant
Overview
abstract
-
We will develop a citizen science program that will focus on assessing groundwater quantity on Bogue Banks. The citizens will be involved with collecting water level measurements on the island over a 6-12 month period. These data will then be used to (a) derive baseline groundwater level conditions on the island, (b) identify potential mitigation and adaptation strategies related to storm water flooding, groundwater inundation etc, and (c) model and asses the effects of climate change and sea level rise on groundwater levels. The goal of this project would be to train, educate and involve citizens in water resources research in a coastal community facing environmental change. Thus, this project will bring scientists and community partners together to find solutions to coastal water resources problems (present and future).
