Using Lidar to assess impacts of dune restoration on coastal resilience in North Carolina

Coastal beaches and dunes are natural barriers to reduce storm surges and coastal flooding and protect inland populations and ecosystems. Due to climate change and sea level rise, beach and dune erosion is a very common problem. One important way to restore the dunes is by planting vegetation to help dune formation and stabilization. We will use GPS and Lidar (Light detection and ranging) to map the beach and dunes to assess the restoration effectiveness along North Carolina coast.
