Grant
Overview
abstract
-
The Farmworker Health Fellowship/Workforce Development Program will recruit college students from agricultural backgrounds and provide them with training and mentorship to support the pipeline of new researchers, health care providers, and agricultural health and safety professionals. Participating students will be involved in community-engaged research projects with farmworkers, farmers, and stakeholders to address COVID-19 related research priorities. Potential focal areas for community engaged research projects include farm stress, respiratory protection, emergency preparedness, and digital inclusion. To expand the reach of this project and further support the pipeline of health care providers and agricultural safety and health professionals, we will additionally provide AHEC fellows, medical and dental school students, and other students from agricultural backgrounds with 1) medical interpretation and community health worker training and 2) support to attend farmworker health conferences. We will give preference to students in North Carolina from agricultural backgrounds, people of color, and those preparing to enter the workforce or transition careers.
