"This grant is made possible by funding from the federal Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) as administered by the State Library of North Carolina, a division of the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources (IMLS grant number LS-246551-OLS-20)."

We focus this application on a specific problem: barriers to internet access in the form of limited technology and information literacy training for youth from migrant farmworker families. These youth, especially those who travel across the agricultural seasons are among the most vulnerable in the educational system. It is clear that students without access to internet access and technology are quickly falling behind. This project will partner with Dr. Joseph Lee, professor in ECU Health Education & Promotion, and with the NC Migrant Education Program to identify needs and purchase laptops to meet those needs. This project will build on a previous NLM funded project that provided information literacy training and wifi hotspots for migrant families. Laupus Library will coordinate purchasing laptops for middle and high school students of migrant families, and also provide health information literacy training for NCMEP staff. Dr. Lee and NCMEP will track the impact of the laptops over the period of the grant.
