  • Dr. D.G. MacPherson, CD, DDS, MSc, ABGD, FAGD
    Dr. MacPherson joined the Canadian Army as a soldier in 1981, and commissioned as an officer in the Combat Arms in 1984. ; He served as an Artillery Officer in the Royal Canadian Horse Artillery in units across Canada, with NATO in Germany during the Cold War, and was a paratrooper in the Canadian Airborne Regiment Battle Group. ; He commanded an Artillery Battery in the Canadian Special Service Force, then went back to Europe to serve as an Operations Officer in the Headquarters for Canadian Forces Europe, which oversaw Canadian Operations during Gulf War I. ; He then commanded another Artillery Battery in Germany, and later he was attached to the United Nations for a year in the mid-1990’s to lead a United Nations team during the war in South Lebanon. ; He then led and commanded an Infantry Company deployed with NATO forces in the Former Republic of Yugoslavia. ;After a two-year appointment as an Artillery Battalion Commander in the 2nd Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group, he was posted to Fort Bliss (Texas) to work with the US Army for three years following the attacks of 9/11. ; During his time at Fort Bliss he was involved in the launch of initial operations into Afghanistan, and then into Iraq for Gulf War II. ; After a career training and commanding Canadian soldiers around the world, he relinquished his rank and went back to school to become a Dental Officer, and to provide healthcare for the soldiers that he once led. ; ; ;
    Dr. MacPherson’s undergraduate education was through the Royal Military College of Canada, the University of Texas in El Paso, and the University of Western Ontario (for Dental School). ;He served as a General Duty Dentist in the Royal Canadian Dental Corps at Canadian Forces Base Halifax, then deployed to sea as Fleet Dental Officer on Her Majesty’s Canadian Ship Preserver, and then commanded the 12 Wing Dental Clinic at CFB Shearwater, Nova Scotia. ; He then completed a 2-Year AEGD Residency with the US Army, and served as a Comprehensive Dentist and Clinic Commander at Canadian Forces Base Borden. ; His last appointment before retiring from military service was Chief Instructor for Medical and Dental Education and Training in the Canadian Armed Forces.
    Dr. MacPherson is a graduate of the Canadian Land Forces Command and Staff College, the US Army 2-year Advanced Education in General Dentistry Residency Program (Fort Hood, Texas), and he completed a MSc in Oral Biology through the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. ; He is Board Certified by the American Board of General Dentistry, and a Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry. ;
    Dr. MacPherson joins the Faculty at the ECU SoDM with a passion for mentoring and developing Comprehensive General Dentists, who are clinically skilled and competent in delivering the full-spectrum of oral healthcare needs for their patients, and who will serve as the next generation of clinician leaders and educators.
    Dr. MacPherson is married, and he and his wife (Iris) have two adult kids; Scott serves in the Royal Canadian Air Force as a technician with a Search and Rescue Squadron, and Katie is a Registered Nurse ; In his spare time he enjoys history, cooking, and playing sports for fun… although he generally runs slowly, sinks in the water, and golfs very poorly.
