Laura Madden is an Associate Professor in the Management Department of the College of Business at East Carolina University. She received her PhD from the Organizations and Strategy program in the Management Department of the College of Business at the University of Tennessee in 2013. Her research specialties are in the areas of positive organizational scholarship, management education, and compassion. In the last eighteen years, she has taught in higher education across two disciplines and five institutions in three states. She holds a certificate in Information Technology in the Classroom from James Madison University and has published and presented on teaching techniques ideal for face-to-face and online classes, with a focus on engaged learning techniques that foster adaptability in the classroom. Her research is published in a variety of scholarly, pedagogical, and practitioner resources, including the Academy of Management Review, Entrepreneurship Education, Journal of Strategic Management Education, Research Methodology in Strategy and Management, Journal of Vocational Behavior, Management Research Review, College Teaching, the Journal of Management Education, and the International Journal of Innovation Management. Her presentations on management education have included scholarly panels and teaching workshops at the Southern Management Association, Academy of Management Teaching and Learning Conference, and the Teaching and Learning with Technology Conference, among others. She has served as the Communications Coordinator and the track chair for the Innovative Teaching and Management Education division at the Southern Management Association. She was featured on ECU's podcast "Talk Like a Pirate" and was the featured faculty member on the COB Experts page for February of 2020.

I am an appointed board member for the Southern Management Association. My title is Communications Co-Coordinator; in that position, I manage the social media presence for SMA across four platforms and handle all email communication with membership. This position requires me to meet with the rest of the board three times per year--at the SMA conference, mid-year board meeting, and Academy of Management conference--and many times throughout the year by conference call. In addition, I have served as a reviewer every year, a session chair many years, and the track chair for the Management Education and Innovative Teaching track in 2016.
