abstract

  • The Division of Oral Health has priority areas related to surveillance and monitoring the burden of disease across the nation. The Division supports both state and national surveillance activity. The project that Dr. Moss would provide guidance is related to the historical aspects of the way data has been collected on various oral health outcomes and interventions, such as dental sealants. Dr. Moss has worked both at the state level and in academia focusing on how to determine the best measures to include in surveillance activities among his other work-related tasks. Traditionally, oral health surveillance has included extensive clinical examinations and the Division would like to explore less resource intensive approaches and identify innovative ways to collect oral health surveillance indicators. Dr. Moss is board certified in dental public health and his experience and expertise across broad research areas relevant to public health practice and academic scholarship will be critical to this project.
