This proposal spans the macromolecular X-ray crystallography efforts of three research programs at the East Carolina University Brody School of Medicine led by Dr. John Cavanagh, Dr. Bandon Garcia, and Dr. Morgan Milton. Each lab focuses on a different aspect of bacterial pathogen-host interactions, including antibiotic resistance, bacterial immune evasion, and biofilm formation. Our goal is to obtain high resolution crystal structures of proteins and protein complexes involved with these host-pathogen interactions. The knowledge gained through this proposal will further our basic understanding of host-pathogen interactions at the molecular level and aid in the development of new therapeutic interventions.
