  • The Eastern North Carolina Literary Homecoming (ENCLH) is a yearlong program of events that celebrate the culture and literature of North Carolina. With activities in five counties, the program provides a rich opportunity for people of this area to learn about and meet North Carolina writers. One participant in the program said, The featured artists invited to participate in the program are North Carolina writers whose works reflect the year?s theme. The 2012 program theme ? Litflix: Adapting North Carolina Literature into Film ? will parallel the 2012 North Carolina Literary Review?s special feature section topic to provide ENCLH a connection with a literary publication, which can offer a greater exposure for the visiting writers. Eight artists whose literary works have been adapted into film and two filmmakers will explore how film can both enhance and distract from the original work. We will hold the main symposium on the ECU campus on September 21-22, 2012. Artists will interact with participants through panels and plenary sessions that examine how audience appeal impacts choices made in translating the book into film, how the youth audience impacts film, and how those decisions impact filmmaking. Artists will also work with participants in five writing workshops: on screenwriting, creative nonfiction, fiction, poetry, and writing for young people. Additional events will be held throughout the year in a five-county area and will include student short story film screenings and book discussions of works by Charles Frazier, Eleanora Tate, and Daniel Wallace.
