Do living shorelines maintain connectivity and habitat function in intertidal landscapes?

We will address both highlighted data gaps/needs using a twofold approach. First, we will conduct a synthetic review of the literature following the general framework introduced by Gittman et al. (2016) ?Ecological consequences of shoreline hardening: a meta-analysis? to explore how living shoreline projects affect the habitat function of intertidal and shallow-subtidal systems. We view this approach as valuable, rather than redundant with Gittman et al. (2016), for two primary reasons: (a), we will narrow that focus of our analyses towards fishery production impacts, and therefore likely integrate new metrics/data to address this specific aspect of ?ecological consequences?. And (b), the living shoreline literature has grown rapidly in the last decade (see Smith et al. 2020), and therefore we will be able to access many data sources not available to the Gittman et al. (2016) review.
