abstract

  • (A) Project Narrative- Because of the ongoing implementation of instructional reform efforts focused on STEM education and the emphasis Wayne County Public Schools (WCPS) places on successful transition of military dependents, WCPS is well positioned to expand upon its successes through Ready STEM 2.0: A Virtual Teaching & Learning Framework (RS2VTLF). RS2VTLF will expand upon STEM instructional reform efforts at two target schools with high percentages of military dependents. The target schools will infuse a PreK-8 vertical alignment with STEM focused instructional reform concepts and 21st Century technology and personal learner centered teaching practices within virtual learning environments in order to increase academic achievement and college/career readiness of military connected students. Through the infusion of STEM and limited 1:1 digital engagement experiences, students and staff will also be better equipped to critically consider problems and issues that relate to the Wayne County area, with special attention being paid to the vital role Seymour Johnson Air Force Base serves in the community. The project targets the DoDEA MCASP Focus Area #1: Academic Support for military dependent youth.
