Provide a short description of the project (maximum 200 words) that is suitable for a lay audience. Waterpipe tobacco smoking harm misperceptions are common and are associated with waterpipe tobacco use. Waterpipe tobacco packaging may contribute to consumer misperceptions of harm, however, no study has examined how waterpipe tobacco packaging affects consumer perceptions. Therefore, we will identify all brands and flavors of waterpipe tobacco and content analyze the product packaging from a random sample of waterpipe tobacco products. We will then recruit young adult waterpipe users to view waterpipe tobacco packages and and complete an online questionnaire in order to identify elements that may represent modified risk claims. Results of this project will inform regulatory policies on the content that can be included on waterpipe tobacco packaging.
