East Carolina University (ECU) will create, staff, and equip the "Eastern Region Pharma Center @ECU" (ERPC@ECU), aiming to increase the number of highly qualified individuals with advanced knowledge, skills, and experience in pharmaceutical manufacturing to meet the current and future needs of the pharmaceutical industry in eastern North Carolina. The ERPC@ECU will collaborate with community college and industry partners to: ? Increase "pharma awareness" and workforce preparedness of young talent in eNC's rural counties; ? Increase the numbers, capabilities and productivity of associate and bachelor's degree graduates; and, ? Increase ECU's readiness to re-skill, up-skill, and new-skill incumbent employees. To achieve these goals, the ERPC@ECU will implement an action plan with three components: (1) Create, staff, and host the Pharma Pathways Program (PPP), a forum for collaboration of ECU, community colleges, and regional industry partners with K12 schools. (2) Expand Academic and Experiential Learning Capacity at ECU by adding faculty members and investing in new laboratory and IT equipment to (i) expand capacity in key degree programs and (ii) develop new, innovative academic program content and capabilities emphasizing future pharma manufacturing industry needs. (3) Expand Industry Partner Services by offering pharma manufacturing short courses, industry certifications, and custom-designed programs for incumbent employees.
