Publication of the Petra North Ridge Grant uri icon

abstract

  • I am applying for a Samuel H. Kress Grant for Research and Publication to facilitate the final publication of the Petra North Ridge Project. After the unexpected death of my project co-PI, I have taken on the solo task of publishing data from the 2012 to 2016 seasons. This interdisciplinary volume will present the data and interpretations of a northern neighborhood in the city from the perspectives of health and disease, diet and animal husbandry, public health infrastructure, the natural environment, and economic vitality. The Kress Grant will allow me to spend six weeks in Amman, Jordan to access the library of the American Center of Research (ACOR) to pull together the volume contributions into a cohesive product. The final volume will consist of 15 contributed chapters, including my final concluding chapter that will place this neighborhood of Petra into the broader cityscape and Nabataean cultural realm. Two presses, the University Press of Colorado and the American Schools of Overseas Research Archaeological Reports series have expressed interest in publishing this volume.
