Evaluation of the Resilience of Living Shorelines and Coastal Residents to Hurricane Dorian Grant uri icon

abstract

  • Utilizing a multidisciplinary approach, through geographic information systems (GIS) science, nearshore vegetation assessment, and coastal county resident surveys, the project seeks to: 1. Assess the immediate impact of Hurricane Dorian on shoreline condition (morphology, structural damage, and vegetation) and shorezone infrastructure; 2. Evaluate relationships between storm impact and shoreline management strategies utilized by residents or a community and how socio-environmental factors, such as socioeconomic standing, perception of environmental conditions, and community representation, influence the level of impact a storm may have on individuals or a community at large.
