The energy generated from wave energy converters can be optimized if the wave energy converter is in resonance with the observed swell period. This proposal aims to develop a power take-off for wave energy converters that can adapt the resonance of the system to the periodicity of the current swell in order to more efficiently generate marine renewable energy. A wave energy characterization for the coastal ocean off of NC will be executed to inform the device development of the typical periodicity of ocean waves for this region.
