Population Health Case Studies: Impacting Health through Evidence-based Community and Clinical Interventions Grant uri icon

abstract

  • We propose creating a series of case studies that will engage an inter-professional group of students (medicine, nursing, dental medicine, public and allied health) in experiential learning and problem solving in population health and in the provision of health services. The case studies will facilitate inteprofessional team-building, a deeper understanding and appreciation for the interaction between policy, the environment (including physical, social, economic, political and cultural), individual characteristics and behaviors, how that interaction fuels the growth of high-burden health conditions. Participants will also learn how to use that interaction to create population health strategies that reduce the growth of high-burden health conditions. The students will also utilize population health improvement strategies such as systems and policy advocacy, program or policy development to create and apply health systems level interventions for improving health. The case studies will also facilitate students? use of community-engagement strategies to improve the health of communities, contribute to the reduction of health disparities, and promote the sustainability of system-level interventions.
