  • Presently, we call our consumer health classes "Healthier U @ your Library" or "Healthier U @ your hospital" and have presented this session 9 times in 2013-14 & 2 times in 2014-15. We have targeted public libraries and hospitals for these sessions. To date, we have exhibited at 1 hospital, 3 public libraries and at our own library. We plan to augment our presentation with the iPads so that the users can hold the presentation, on the iPad, in their hands. We sometimes have difficulty scheduling events at new locations because the technology is not the same across the region in libraries and hospitals. Because the iPads are lightweight, attendees will be able to have our presentation pre-loaded onto their iPads. The benefit is using mobile technology and the lightweight iPad fills the need quite nicely. Also, while we are discussing Internet resources, they are free to follow along with us or find answers to questions that they may have. They also may want to know about health care information for immediate family members. With the iPads, we can link to local WiFi connections so that there is Internet access to resources right in the hands of the consumers who need it most. Eastern North Carolina has some of the highest incidences of obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes and heart disease in the US. We can assist the public with finding the best information on the Internet that can make a difference in their daily lives. There are also a myriad of underserved populations in our area: seniors, minorities, and caregivers.
