abstract

  • North Carolina School Health Training Center is uniquely positioned to assist North Carolina Healthy Schools within the Department of Public Instruction to continue to support the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Cooperative Agreement, a five-year award, to support ten priority school districts. This contract builds on work completed in years 1 -3 by expanding completion of the School Health Index through established school leads and implementation in additional schools. The School Health Index is a CDC self-assessment used to inform planning efforts for the Cooperative Agreement. The NC SHTC will follow up with team leads of SHI completers in years 1-3 to review action plan summaries, actions taken, and revisions for subsequent years. The NC SHTC will assist with planning and implementing the annual statewide School Health Advisory Council. This meeting is open to all SHACs and provides an opportunity for sharing, networking, and identifying strategies to implement in their local schools and communities with partners. Lastly, they will update the NC School Health Advisory Council manual, which has not been updated since 2003. This guide serves as a reference document for SHACs in every school district in NC and is also looked to as a national resource.
