Phase 2: Oyster reef restoration in Back Sound, Rachel Carson Reserve, Beaufort, North Carolina

Overall project objectives: Objective 1: Restore intertidal oyster reefs within the Rachel Carson Reserve Objective 2: Monitor the success of the restoration in terms of oyster recruitment, vegetation change and shoreline elevation and position change. R. Gittman, ECU, will: 1. Monitor oyster recruitment, marsh vegetation change, shoreline elevation and position change, and wave energy conditions at restored oyster reef and restoration sites. 2. Supervise a postdoc, graduate and undergraduate student to assist with the monitoring. 3. Manage data collected from the surveys and co-author peer-reviewed publications.
