With this project, a new clinical location with Martin Tyrell Washington (MTW) District Health will be established for ECU College of Nursing (CON) students. This new clinical location will allow them to complete their hours required for their community health clinical course. During this clinical experience, ECU CON nursing students will be partners in primary, secondary, and tertiary care activities at MTW District Health. There they will provide care to clients of all ages and of many educational, ethnic, and socio-economic groups. The interdisciplinary staff will allow the students to actively work with team members to provide care. Clinical experiences could include clinic visits with a physician, nurse practitioners, and nurses, to teaching health-related classes, providing individual client/family education, home visits with nurses and environmental health inspections with the environmental health specialists (EHS). Both the students and clinic staff will train and use an new vision screener, partially support from grant funds.
