Specific aims include:
Specific Aim #1 (Physiological Impact of Play): To determine, using innovative technology to measure real time physiological data, if a link exist between play and physiological synchronization between parent and child.
Specific Aim #2 (Synchronization and Emotional Regulation): To determine, using physiological data, if higher emotional regulation and attunement of the parent results in increased emotional regulation of the child. Experiments like the still face experiment, suggest that as parents remain engaged and available (an ability that is compromised as they become physiologically aroused) than children experience less arousal and can better regulate their own distress.
Specific Aim #3 (Synchronization and Relationships): To evaluate, based on physiological data, if increased regulation of both parent and child results in decreased levels of stress and stronger relationships, thus decreasing negative behavior and preventing future adverse experiences (i.e., neglect, abuse, unavailability).
