Microbially Influenced Corrosion of WWII Aluminum Aircraft Wrecks in Saipan Grant uri icon

abstract

  • Aircraft were a major component of the American war effort in the Pacific Theatre of WWII, and today, numerous examples can be found throughout the waters of the western Pacific. Due to their significance to modern stakeholders, understanding the decay trajectories has become an important issue in the realm of conservation archaeology and cultural heritage management. This study proposes to investigate the effects of microbially influenced corrosion (MIC) on aluminum alloys in aircraft wrecks located near Saipan.
