  • The Colonel Richard M. and Betty Debnam Hunt Teaching Resources Center (TRC) in Joyner Library at East Carolina University is a curriculum materials center containing children's and young adult collections, K-12 North Carolina state adopted textbooks, and a variety of teaching manipulatives and technology tools. The TRC seeks to expand its collection of books and curriculum materials in the focus area of early childhood literacy, ages birth - eight years, to better serve the University's teacher preparation programs, and to be more inclusive of ECU students and families who visit the library with young children. Literacy Tech for Tots (LiTT Project) will provide access to high quality books and technology tools for children, ages birth to eight years, and to their teachers and families. The project includes three interrelated components to ensure access to these high-quality early literacy materials and to maximize their impact in the communities we serve: 1. Multiple themed curriculum kits of children's materials, including books, technology tools, lesson plans and activity ideas, will be curated for each age group. 2. A family resource collection of books and resources, with materials specific to early childhood literacy and best practices in technology use with young children, will be developed and made available for circulation in the Teaching Resources Center. 3. Portable, soft furnishings for young children will be added to the Teaching Resources Center to better serve children who frequently visit Joyner Library from the Nancy W. Darden Child Development Center located on the campus of ECU, and to make the space more welcoming for parents and caregivers who visit the library with young children.
