Overview

In keeping with the strategic plan of the Natural Resources and the Environment Research Cluster, our multidisciplinary research team is poised to address an important water quality issue for the state of North Carolina and beyond-development of an economical and effective technology for reducing concentrations of a toxic wastewater contaminant, 1,4-Dioxane, being discharged into the environment and is not regulated by the US EPA despite its potential carcinogenicity and other significant health effects. Further, this research fosters new strengths in water and alternate water research at ECU, and may lead to major, program-level grants and contracts that are not represented in ECU's current portfolio of sponsored activities.
