Grant
Overview
abstract
-
This project promotes environmental justice in disadvantaged NC communities through providing technical assistance for manufacturing facilities. It aligns with the National Environmental Justice Advisory Council's recommendations for clean production, clean energy, and waste reduction. Using EPA's mapping tool, suitable manufacturing facilities will be identified and assessed for energy, water, and P2. Roundtables and training courses will facilitate the adoption of clean production practices. Engagement with city managers and Economic Development Commissions ensures effective dissemination. P2 activities, including product substitution, will be implemented in disadvantaged communities. Roundtable discussions address barriers, emphasizing energy efficiency. Industry-specific roundtables involve representatives in identifying effective P2 strategies. The role of government and regulatory bodies in supporting environmental justice will be explored. Public participation and awareness will be promoted.
