abstract

  • The proposed project will restore 36, 3m by 4m intertidal oyster reefs (0.11 acres total) along eroding salt marsh and unvegetated shoreline on Carrot Island within the Rachel Carson Reserve, in Back Sound, Beaufort, NC. The project involves construction of reefs using shell bags and Oyster Catcher? materials. 24 reefs will be constructed directly adjacent to salt marsh and 12 reefs will be constructed offshore of remnant marsh peat shoreline to promote salt marsh recovery.
