The intention of work is to offer session fee remission for low to moderate income clients who have experienced trauma, adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) or other highly stressful incidences that are contributing to psychosocial symptoms in individuals, couples or families. Symptoms related to PTSD, trauma and complex trauma have been shown to increase risk for mental and physical health disorders as well increase risk of re-victimization (interpersonal trauma), unemployment, homelessness, and even incarceration. The purpose of this program is to effectively treat current trauma in a Family Therapy setting with individuals, couples and families to create healthier outcomes for the individuals who experienced trauma, their families, their workplaces and the community. A survey of clients being seen in the ECU Family Therapy Clinic in 2017 found that the majority of clients that came to the clinic were low income and that many had experienced some form of violence, abuse or trauma. Due to this presenting need, we are requesting funds to remit the session fee for low to moderate income clients who have experienced violence, abuse, trauma, or adverse childhood experiences, and are experiencing related mental health symptoms that are debilitating in some way.
