Physical Activity Following Surgery-Induced Weight Loss

Overview
abstract
-
It is our primary hypothesis that the combination of weight loss + physical activity will provide additive (and thus independent) positive effects on: 1) weight loss and body composition; 2) metabolic risk factors such as insulin action and other markers of the metabolic syndrome; and 3) markers of the capacity for efficient fat utilization by muscle compared to weight loss alone. While clinical indices indicative of health status will be obtained, we will also study plasma and muscle samples and body composition (i.e. regional fat distribution) in order to discern the mechanisms involved with promoting the additive effect with weight loss + physical activity intervention.
